Too many people in Cynon Valley may face difficulties keeping their homes warm, which is why I welcome the Welsh Labour Government’s recent announcement that they will be investing an extra £40 million over the next four years to improve the energy efficiency of up to 25,000 homes across Wales.
The funding will be targeted at households with low incomes in order to help them heat their homes more affordably. It will also support further green growth initiatives, building on the Welsh Government’s energy and carbon saving work in the Welsh public sector.
Since 2011, the Welsh Government has invested more than £217 million in its Warm Homes scheme and has improved the energy efficiency of nearly 40,000 homes across Wales.
The programme supports measures such as installing insulation, heating controls, replacement boilers and draught proofing. This has many benefits; improving the health of those who have struggled to heat their homes, reducing energy emissions and creating local jobs and opportunities for local companies in the energy efficiency industry.
The NEST scheme could also help you with your heating, as it provides householders living in Wales with access to free advice and support to help them reduce their energy bills.
As we go through winter it is vital the Welsh Government does its part to ensure that all those who are struggling to heat their homes get the support they need. I know these measures have the potential to really help people in Cynon Valley, and that’s why I am doing all I can to publicise them.
