Cynon Valley AM asks for constituents’ views on discounted bus travel for 16 to 24 year olds

Vikki Howells AM is asking residents in her Cynon Valley constituency to take part in a Welsh Labour Government consultation exploring how best to promote bus travel amongst young people.

The consultation was recently launched by the Welsh Government, and calls for evidence from individuals, groups and organisations across Wales on how best it can facilitate bus use amongst 16-24 year olds.

The consultation will run until 4 January 2018, and will help shape a new scheme for young people that will then be introduced in April 2018.

The Cynon Valley Assembly Member is calling for constituents to make their views known so that future services best reflects the needs and preferences of young people, and helps further boost bus travel as an option.

Vikki Howells AM said:

“Young people are especially reliant on public transport, particularly in an area like ours where one in four households do not have access to a car.

“Discounted bus travel would make a huge difference to young people in Cynon Valley, to make sure they can access employment, education and training.

“It is important that local young people make sure they have their say on how a discounted travel scheme would work”.
