Vikki Howells has welcomed the Welsh Labour Government’s continued commitment to its council tax reduction scheme.
The scheme helps hard pressed families in Cynon Valley pay their council tax bills.
The announcement will ensure that approximately 300,000 vulnerable and low-income households in Wales will continue to be protected from any increase in their council tax bills.
Vikki Howells AM said:-
“I am encouraged by the Government’s initiative, this is good news for many hard pressed households across the Cynon Valley, who will continue to receive support with their council tax bills.
“It is the Government’s duty to protect those struggling the most in our communities, and Welsh Labour continues to ensure that such support remains readily available when needed.”
The Welsh Government’s approach is in stark contrast to the situation in England, where over two million low-income households are faced with having to pay more of their council tax bill, with no guaranteed protection like the one that exists in Wales.
The Welsh Government’s commitment to the council tax reduction scheme in the face of the UK Government’s rollout of Universal Credit, serves to help protect the most vulnerable and hard pressed families in the Cynon Valley.
If you are liable to pay council tax, either as a homeowner or a tenant, and you live in the property as your main residence, you might be able to get a Council Tax Reduction (CTR).
To be eligible you must:
- have a low income or
- receive certain welfare benefits.
Vikki Howells AM added:-
“The scheme is in place to support households that in many cases have felt the full force of the UK Conservative Government’s cruel and shambolic welfare reforms.
“I would urge residents who think they may be entitled to support with their Council Tax bills to contact Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.”
If you feel you could perhaps qualify for a council tax reduction you can contact RCT Council on 01443 425002, or email them at [email protected].
In addition, RCT Council’s website provides a comprehensive list of the various council tax discounts, exemptions and reductions that are available, and the requirements necessary to meet them.
You can also receive assistance with your application by visiting your local one4all centre.
Ends.
