Extra money for Cross Valley Link approved by Welsh Government

The Welsh Government has announced that it will be investing another £1.5 million in the development of the Cross Valley Link in Mountain Ash.

The grant moves plans to bridge the valley, and build a new connecting road between Miskin and the Cwm Cynon Industrial Estate, a step closer.

Local Assembly Member Vikki Howells and RCT Leader Councillor Andrew Morgan have welcomed the news, saying the scheme will benefit not only Mountain Ash but also other residents of Cynon Valley.

The announcement comes as the Welsh Government revealed details of successful applications under its Local Transport Fund, under which councils bid for funds for projects to improve transport infrastructure in their area.

Among successful bids for 2017/18 are an extra £1.5 million for the Cross Valley Link, which brings the total investment in the project by RCT Council and the Welsh Government to over £7.5 million.

Vikki Howells AM said:-

“The Cross Valley Link is a really important project that will improve transport links into and within the Cynon Valley.

“When the link is completed, it will be good news for commuters and the local community but boosting connectivity is also crucial for our economy.

“I welcome this additional allocation of money to the project, and want to congratulate RCT Council and Welsh Government for moving this forward despite the pressures on public spending”.

Councillor Andrew Morgan said:-

“I am very pleased with the progress now being made to deliver the Cross Valley Link by 2019.

“With planning permission granted just last week, and joint funding allocated from RCT Council and the Welsh Government this scheme is finally set to be a reality.

“Land acquisition is underway and the designs are progressing well with early work expected to start onsite in the summer this year”.
