“Revised Cancer Plan to Help us Deliver Best Cancer Care in Europe” says Cynon AM

Cynon Valley AM Vikki Howells has endorsed the Welsh Government’s revised Cancer Delivery Plan, saying it will help Wales deliver cancer care that is amongst the best in Europe.

The revised plan, published by Welsh Health Secretary Vaughan Gething AM after consultation with experts and key groups, focuses on improving survival rates for cancer and builds on previous progress in Wales in reducing cancer-related early deaths by 14% in the past 10 years.

Early detection of cancers, treatment of lung cancer and ensuring the highest standards of care are other priorities in the plan.

The Cynon Valley AM recently visited the Cancer Research Wales centre in Velindre Hospital, to learn more about the innovative research being pioneered in Wales for treating cancer.

Vikki Howells AM said:-

“During my visit to Velindre Hospital, I was shown how cutting-edge research is being used to improve the survival rates of people whose lives are affected by cancer.

“Another key message was the vital role that diagnosing cancer as soon as possible plays in giving people optimum chances for treatment.

“The Welsh Government’s revised Cancer Delivery Plan sets out how we can meet these aims by developing the treatment and care given to people.

“Too many lives have been affected by cancer and this Plan will help Wales meet our objectives of having cancer treatment services that are amongst the best in Europe.”
