Commenting on the decision of the Planning Inspectorate to allow the appeal by Davies Homes Ltd to develop 120 houses on the site of the former Blaengwawr Comprehensive School, Cynon Valley Assembly Member Vikki Howells said:-
“This is deeply disappointing news.
“In my view RCT Council’s original decision to refuse planning permission was the right one, due to safety considerations in relation to Club Street and its access on to Cardiff Road.
“When I submitted my objections to the proposed development, I made clear that these safety issues, and the effects of the proposed development on residents of Club Street, meant this appeal should not be allowed.
“It is disappointing that the Planning Inspectorate has chosen to ignore these concerns.
“Moreover, by refusing to conduct this appeal by means of a public hearing, there has been a failure to adequately engage with the local community or provide the assurances they should be able to expect”.
