Talking disability with Accessible News

I recently met with Richard Jones, Principal Consultant of Accessible News, to talk about the Empower Disability Information Surgeries that Accessible News runs.

These surgeries ensure people with disabilities and their families can get access to the correct information and support, which is so important. They are held on the first Wednesday of every month in Hirwaun Village Hall between 11am and 1pm. Advice is provided by expert volunteers.

Richard told me about the cases they have worked on and the relationships that have been forged with organisations in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Richard also updated me on the Considerate Parking Campaign being run by Accessible News, in association with South Wales Police and supported by the local council. This has seen several action events in Aberdare Town Centre and has led to a marked improvement in some parking black spots.

It’s important that drivers park considerately, so that problems aren’t caused for others, and it was good to hear about the support this campaign is receiving.
