Weekly Round Up – 9 July 2021

Please find below information on some of my highlights from the past seven days.

Constituency 

  1. I was interviewed by local radio station GTFM. If you missed my interview, you can download it here.
  2. Visited Hirwaun RFC to meet members of the club and hear about how they are supporting the local community.
  3. Met with Citizens Cymru’s RCT Groupto discuss their campaigns for a Real Living Wage and Dignity for Care Workers.
  4. Attended the unveiling of the newest defibrillator in Cynon Valley, at Mary’s Chip Shop in the Tynte.

Senedd 

  1. I asked the Economy Minister about Welsh Government support for the retail sector in Wales.
  2. I questioned the Health Minister on how Welsh Government is working to improve digital systems within the Welsh NHS.
  3. I was pleased to be elected as a member of the Senedd’s Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee, which will scrutinise policy areas such as business, economic development, skills, international trade, agriculture and food. Follow our work here.
  4. I was re-elected asChair of the Welsh Labour Senedd Group, a position I am proud to have held since 2017.

Welsh Government 

  1. The Welsh Government published details of its legislative priorities for the next twelve months.
  2. The Education Minister provided an update on the next steps to be taken in terms of curriculum reform within the school system.
  3. There was a statement from the Climate Change Minister on second homes and the affordability of housing.
  4. Extra funding was announced for Save a Life Cymru to help improve survival rates for people who have suffered cardiac arrests.
