Local AM Vikki Howells has welcomed a double boost of investment into the Cynon Valley.
The Welsh Government announced an extra £5million to extend the high street rates relief scheme in 2018-19 – helping shops and pubs in Cynon Valley to pay their business rates.
This was closely followed by an announcement that nearly £8million of the Town Centre Loans Fund would be released to help revitalise high streets up and down Wales. This includes nearly £2million to develop vacant properties in the town centres of Aberdare and Pontypridd.
Vikki Howells AM said:-
“It is great to see the Welsh Labour Government continue to invest in our local communities and businesses.
“I am delighted the Welsh Labour Government is providing targeted support to high street retailers which will benefit businesses across the Cynon Valley. The measures will help shops and pubs which are affected by the current economic conditions and competition from online and out-of-town providers.
“The Town Centre Loan Fund will be used by RCT Council to fund on developments in Aberdare and Pontypridd, tackling eye sore properties and making both town centres better places to shop.
“Both of these schemes show the innovative vision the Welsh Government has to deliver diversified town centres across the country, which will hopefully create the right environment for businesses to grow and thrive.”
